Abel Lopez is the founding shareholder of Abel Lopez PA. Mr. Lopez earned his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law, where he graduated Cum Laude, at the top 10% of his class.
Before attending law school, Mr. Lopez worked as an accountant for A&E Garcia, P.A., a boutique accounting firm in Coral Gables, FL. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida International University.
Mr. Lopez’s dedication in law school, earned him the Best Student (Book) Award in several courses, including Federal Income Taxation, Elder Law, Appellate Advocacy, and Advanced Legal Research and Writing. His grade point average earned him a spot in the Dean’s List which he kept all semesters. He was also awarded academic scholarships, including the St. Thomas University School of Law Merit Scholarship and the Jose A. Espino Memorial Scholarship, through all his semesters in law school.
Since his first year in law school, Mr. Lopez earned a position as Research Assistant for Tax Professor Mark J. Wolff. Later he worked for The Honorable Maria M. Korvick, Administrative Judge of the Probate Division of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court, as a certified judicial intern.
Mr. Lopez was also a member of his law school’s Phi Delta Phi Honors Legal Fraternity, Tax Law Society, Cuban American Student Bar Association, and the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program where he
worked as a volunteer tax return preparer for underprivileged tax payers.
During his undergraduate studies in Florida International University, Mr. Lopez received several honors, like the Dean’s List and Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. He also participated in organizations like the Accounting Association and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), besides pledging his time as a volunteer tax return preparer for underprivileged taxpayers in the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, which he later continued through law school.
